Summary
LAFwords is an AI-based vocabulary app for learners who can recognize plenty of words but still struggle to use them naturally. The idea is to help you learn the range of a single word by seeing it used in different contexts. When you add a word you’ve come across, LAFwords generates ten example sentences covering different meanings, tenses, registers, and situations, along with images and audio pronunciations. If a word has several meanings, you see each meaning and work out the differences from the examples and the short explanations. You then review those examples using spaced repetition with FSRS (the same scheduling system used in Anki).
The app is intentionally simple. And because you add the words yourself, your vocabulary list is based on words you’ve actually encountered rather than a fixed word list. LAFwords currently supports only English and Spanish and offers a seven-day trial without requiring a credit card.
LAFwords is similar to Anki, LingQ and Migaku in using context to help you learn vocabulary, but it has a narrower focus: taking words you add and showing you how they work across a range of contexts. LAFwords is still new and doesn’t have reading or media features. If you want to work through books, articles, videos, or get in-depth grammar instruction, other tools will probably be more useful. LAFwords is mainly for learners who already know a lot of vocabulary but want to get a better feel for how those words work in varying contexts.
